The P9 results from years of talking to users. A frequent request is to have the area around the bores is fully open and yet completely safe. The operator can then work in comfort without having to be troubled by the cumbersome guarding found on older designs. The area below the barrel is open and free. This allows the ease of collection and disposal of collected extrudate. For the serious experimentalist it allows the fitting of a host of options ( camera die swell, melt strength etc. ). This open approach comes from using a high performance AEROSPACE frame. This approach has been desirable for many years. It has been avoided by historical designs on the basis of cost and engineering difficulty ( thus leaving nearly all historical instruments "boxed" in ). Porpoise employed AEROSPACE engineering to achieve the elusive high performance available in the P9. The useable limit of the system is around 200kN. Another feature is that the frame height is designed to be variable at the time of manufacture, so you get the choice to suit your lab.
